Growing up with the birth of Vaporwave and being into the "classics" (Vektroid's Floralle Shoppe and Lopatin's Eccojams Vol. 1), I was frequently dissapointed with how few artists used vocal tracks in their works like those artists did. The slowed down vocals were one of my favorite parts of vaporwave... so when I heard I'll Try Living Like This, I was in heaven.
I'm familiar with so many of the songs sampled (a LOT of Sonic R on this..) and almost all of the songs have slowed down vocals. It's like a cross between vaporwave with heavy electronic music-style production. I'd definitely consider it one of the genre's greats.
I'd been a pretty big Liturgy fan since The Ark Work in 2015, and fell completely in love with Haela's music in 2019 with the release of H.A.Q.Q.. 93696 is another album that builds on the musical (and theological) philosophies that Haela's been talking about since Liturgy's inception, each time refining both.
I was lucky enough to see Liturgy with my younger brother up near Cleveland back in 2023 a little after 93696's release, and it's still one of my favorite experiences I've ever had with live music. I have never left a show feeling so uplifted as I did that one.
One of the first albums that my brother reccomended to me since I told him I liked post rock (which at the time was really only Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra lmao). Super great vibes the whole way through, I love the DI distorted guitar on 'Until Your Temples Are Pounding'- makes me smile every time.
Heavy and slow, get blown to smithereens. Played loud out of live speakers is the way to go, it helps to free your mind and your soul! Shred my conciousness, shed my conciousness- we're transcending the recording apparatus with this one.
Electronic 'hyperpop'- some of the sweetest sounds ever recorded.
I'd been listening to Katie Dey since 2014 when asdfasdf was put out by the Orchid Tapes record label. That album instantly became one of my favorites- one of those pieces of music where the first time you listen to it, you feel like your heart had found what it was looking for without you being concious of it's searching.
Almost 10 years later, Never Falter Hero Girl touched my soul in a way that was shocking to me. This album will live in my heart forever. An honest and genuine masterpiece of electronic pop music.
